The Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed School (MTCR) in Nilaveli, where 250 boys and girls are educated, had no toilet facilities and drinking water because of the tsunami of December 2004. With the support from Wild Geese and Havonos the school was equipped with proper sanitation and clean drinking water. Roofs and floors were repaired, classrooms were refurbished and redecorated. The toilet building has been completely renovated and water pipes were laid. The grounds around the school have been raised and a drain was built to drain the rainwater. Using the John Wind Price (2009), the school was equipped with electricity and a computer lab and sports and play equipment were purchased.
