Completion of the Expansion learning/working farm in Iyakachchi
Under the inspiring leadership of Father Avalin, the learning/working farm has been expanded with stables and pens for pigs and chickens. A large additional well has also been dug with a water pump that runs on energy generated by solar panels. Irrigation pipes run from the well over most of the 50ha of land, giving the harvest a better chance of reaching maturity.
This project was extra welcome, because Sri Lanka was also in lockdown due to COVID-19. Because people were not allowed to go out on the streets, they could not work. No work means no income and no income means no food. The (famine) need was great. The learning/working farm could help with the proceeds of the land.
The expansion of the learning/working farm was partly realized in collaboration with Wilde Ganzen and partly with Stichting Een Helpende Hand (SEHH) and the Haëlla foundation.
