The SieCo Centre has outgrown its premises. There is a need for more space to provide education especially to children of pre-school age and older. Havonos, in collaboration with Wilde Ganzen, is realizing 2 extra classrooms at the Sieco Centre. To everyone's surprise, chairman Sieni and her son Sander were allowed to open these classrooms during their visit. They named the extension "Esther's Education Center" in memory of daughter and sister Esther Schouten.
The SieCo Centre is located in Mullikulam, a remote village in the jungle. The roads to it are bad and there is no public transport. People do almost everything on foot. The SieCo Centre has a car that is used for everything e.g. death and wedding, to the hospital, and more.. All villagers benefit from this multi-purpose car which was broken and fortunately has now been repaired.
Some time ago, we also received Father Harance's alarming report that stray elephants were entering the compound in search of food, causing destruction on the land. We cannot imagine such a thing over here. Having seen the danger and havoc ourselves, with support from Wild Geese we made it possible to provide the site with a sturdy – elephant-proof – fence. The danger seems to have passed.
