Construction rehabilitation clinic and recovery for young people in Batticaloa and surrounding areas with the aim of returning to society (2023-2024)
Due to the hopeless and for many, challenging situation in Sri Lanka, many adolescents and young adults flee into addiction to drugs or alcohol. The challenges they face are:
- The bankruptcy of the country
- Unemployment
- The traumas of being born and growing up in refugee camps during the civil war
- The still noticeable and palpable effects of the corona pandemic
- Extreme weather conditions, from heat to floods
Havonos, together with Wilde Ganzen at OMI's request, realized the construction of an addiction clinic in Batticaloa (North East Sri Lanka), where addicts work on their traumas and addiction according to a strict regimen. Our president Sieni was allowed to open the building, along with Mrs Lily Vasam, who donated the land to OMI.
You can also find this project under 'Projects in request', because due to the skyrocketing prices of building materials, everything has become much more expensive. As a result, no money was left for the complete furnishing of the clinic and Havonos and Wilde Ganzen were again called upon for this purpose.
